前巻がやや一服の巻であったように思えますが、この巻は再び熱くさせてくれます。
梁山泊軍の初の大敗。
しかし何ものにも代えがたい地方の勇、呼延灼将軍を引き入れます。
秦明将軍に続き、呼延灼将軍です。
残る関勝はどうなるのか？
ますます目がはなせなくなります！

そろそろ、中盤中だるみも出るころでしょう。
そんな気持ちで読みはじめると、とんでもない
ことになります。

北方謙三をみくびるな。

あっさり、読者は濁流に飲まれます。
宋軍随一の将軍呼延灼のお出ましです。
地方軍にあって、いや地方軍にあるから
こそ実戦で鍛え抜かれた卓抜した軍略。

見事に梁山泊軍を危地に陥れるあたりは、
読み応え十分。
あの人も、この人も押しつぶされて
果ててゆきます。
高きゅうのまさにオウンゴールで、呼延灼は
どうする？

濁流流れる第10巻。

　思い起こせば、「水滸伝」との出会いはまず光栄のゲームでした。光栄の「三国志」にはまって、その流れで読んだのが「ものがたり　水滸伝」という本。これが今いろいろな情報を読むと間違いだったわけですが、たったの一冊で水滸伝全編をダイジェストで紹介する本で、これがもとで水滸伝からは完全に遠ざかりました。途中に栗本薫の「魔界水滸伝」とかこれまたゲームの「幻想水滸伝」シリーズに流れたりしますが、本筋の水滸伝からは遠ざかりました。
　だから詳しくはわからず、百八人の英傑が、腐りきった宋の国を打倒して、民のために立ち上がっていく壮大な物語。それだけが、自分の中では「水滸伝」という物語でした。
　しかし、今回もまた北方「三国志」という素晴らしい小説のおかげでもう一回、水滸伝を読んでみようという気持ちにさせられ、読み始めたのですが、今回は当たりも当たり、大当たり。素晴らしい物語が待っていました。
　あとがきや解説によれば、かなり本家「水滸伝」をリファインして、原作で矛盾するところや時系列がおかしいところを直していたりもするようですがその甲斐あって、非常に強い物語性を獲得した物語になっています。英傑たちが作り上げていく梁山泊の成り立ちやそこに集う一人一人がしっかりと血肉を備えた存在として、それぞれががっちり描き込まれています。
　そして、反乱の話だから当たり前なんですが、それだけがっちりと描き込まれた英雄たちが、当たり前のようにまた死んでゆきます。理想のため、愛する女性のため、意地のため、プライドのため、家族のため、国への怒りに死んでいきます。それが対立する組織のほうでもしっかりと描かれています。
　だから、読んでいて非常に物語に重みがあり、ぐっと来ます。
　ハードボイルドの代表選手とも言える北方謙三さんの本ですから、男臭いのは当たり前ですが、そこだけを取り出して食わず嫌いせずに絶対に読んで欲しい本です。北方「三国志」にはまった人なら、なおさら読んで欲しいです。全19巻と長い話で、ちょうどこの10巻目で折り返しですが、今からでも遅くないです。是非読んで欲しいです。
