葉さんの本はほとんど読んでいるし、新刊が出るのをいつも心待ちにしているのに、
今回は出版されたことを知らずにいて　手に入れるのが遅くなってしまいました。
『葉的シリーズ』と比べると、静かな、心地いい静けさを感じる本だと思います。
『おさかなニューヨークを行く』と、どこかが少し似ているかもしれないな、って感じます。
ニューヨークのことを書く人は多いし、ブログなんかも沢山ありますが、大体がとてもエキセントリックな
印象が残る…「どーだ！わたしはニューヨーカーなんだぞっ！！うらやましいだろ！」って言われている様な
感じを受ける、そういった類のものが多いように思います。
“ニューヨーカーである自分に酔っちゃってる”或いは“ニューヨーカーになった自分に興奮してぶっとんじゃってる”
みたいな感じ。
そういうものが葉さんの本には、いえ葉さんには感じられません。
ごく当たり前に、ごく自然にニューヨークの街に暮らしている…自分自身を生きている方なんだろう、と想像します。
この本は、そんな葉さんの横顔が見えるようなエピソードで溢れています。
物事にただ巻き込まれてしまうのではなく、巻き込まれながらもいつも客観的にご自分とその状況を把握、
されているみたい。
だからニューヨークの当たり前の風景、日常を“音声付の写真”或いは“一篇の短編映画”のように
切り取って読者に示してくれるのでは？

ニューヨークは確かに、特別な街、奇跡が起きてもおかしくない街のひとつだな、と思います。
その街にいる葉さん、葉さん自身が天使のように感じます。
だからこんなにやさしく、あたたかく、ふわふわした焼きたてのシフォンケーキのような味わいの本を
書いていらっしゃるのだ、と思います。

ニューヨーク旅行のガイドブックには、本書は向いていません。
でも、ニューヨークに行く時には是非もって行ってほしい本です。
出来たらニューヨークを体験した後で、帰りの機内ででも読んでいただきたい、そんな本です。
