出奔後の宋江は、武松を供に危険の旅路へ。
梁山泊は、動きを見せ始め、楊志の動きも見逃せなくなってくる。
官軍は、青蓮寺の増強で対抗する。
何かが起こりそうな駆け引きに引き込まれる第4巻です。

前巻で予想もしない出来事により、罪人として手配されることとなった宋江。
しかし武松をともに、「志」を広めるたびを続ける中で、「替天行道」をかかげる梁山泊の仲間がどんどん増えてゆきます。
この巻の最後に宋江の身に最大の危機が・・・
息つくまもなく５巻に読みすすんでしまいます。

役人が腐敗しきった宋の時代、その国を改革すべく、全国各地から湧き上がる豪傑たちの活躍を描く、北方水滸伝ですが、やはり、この手の冒険小説は、善玉がいれば悪玉がいればこそ。
前巻までは、豪傑たち善玉、官軍の悪玉、各々の陣営を描いた部分が中心でしたが、当巻あたりから、善玉・悪玉の激突が登場し、いやがおうにも、物語のボルテージは、一挙に上がります。
文庫本では、月１冊のペースで発刊されるそうですが、その面白さに、既に全１９巻完結している単行本を、思わず買いにいってしまいそうになる面白いシリーズです。
ただ、注意すべきは、あとがき。やや、この手のあとがきにしてはルール違反に近い種明かしにふれる部分がありますので、これから読まれる方は注意！
