　タイトルにまず、ぎょっとする。「危険な」とは、確かに本当の意味で、ガンジーが考えていた「極端な」非暴力が遂行されたら、国としての在り方が根本から揺さぶられてしまう。また国民をも不安にさせる要素がある。そういう意味では国家にとっては非常に危険なものになりうる考えなのだ。目の付けどころが面白く、本書は学術論文を基に分かりやすく書きなおしているものなので、論の展開がドキドキするくらい巧い。論はまだその先に専門的なことがあったのではないかと思われる書き方で、補論が用意されている。

　補論では、ガンジーの非暴力、『ヒンド・スワラージ』、「逆さま国家」の考えを今の日本に応用した場合が提案される。だが、このガンジーの非暴力は、我々が普段、地域や職場などで日常行っている、人々が紛争やケンカを避けるやり方で、よく知っているものなのだという。また、我々の市民社会自体が非暴力と考えられる。このことから、佐藤優がよくその著書で語る、本来、国家とは暴力的なものであるという定義を思い出す。

　ガンジーの標榜した非暴力をインド全体で貫いたのなら、独立後に出来上がった憲法も非暴力のはずだ。しかし、出来上がったものは「国家の正当な暴力を独占する」ものだった。彼らは「ガンジーの根本原理を捨て」たのか？ガンジーの思想と憲法の中身にある隔たりは、国家が国民主体なのか、それとも国家が主体かという問いにも行き着く。そうして国民を「説得しきれなかった」ガンジーは自らの死を予感し（もしくは願った通り）、棘の道を進み続け、暗殺されてしまう・・・。
