出版社はターゲットを 「田舎暮らしをしてみたい団塊の世代」 とし、
著名人である玉村さんに田舎暮らし指南書を書いてもらって、本の売り上げを伸ばそうと目論んでいる。

玉村さんは集英社の意図を汲み、その線に乗って書いているように見せているだけで、
ほんとうは 「玉村豊男氏の生活と意見（アッパーミドルの田舎暮らしについて）」 を書いているのだと思う。
この場合のアッパーミドルは英国基準。　平たくいえば家庭画報に常連するクラスですね。

玉村さんは厭味のない人だから、この本もすなおに書かれていて、もちろん芸術家でもあるから表現力は抜群でたいへん読みやすい。
東京生まれ東京育ちの彼が、軽井沢の都会風田舎暮らしから、山の住人（ワイナリー経営）になるまでの経緯がよくわかった。

会社勤めを全うし、このたびめでたく定年退職することになった、ロウアーミドルの団塊の世代がまねをしても無理、
玉村さんがなんと言おうともこれはおとぎ話である。
彼の人柄でついつい読んでしまいました。
よい読み物だったと思う。

作家で芸術家である著者が書く田舎暮らしの本

内容は，まず，田舎暮らしの魅力について語り，なぜ田舎暮らしがしたく
なるのかについて述べています．次に以前の田舎暮らしと比べインターネットの
普及などで都会との距離が短くなったことを触れ実際の田舎暮らしを
紹介しています．後半は，田舎暮らしをどう過ごすかについて述べ
題名の田舎暮らしができるかどうかについて述べています．

以外と低い評価のレビューが多いですが，実際に田舎暮らしをしてみて
且つ田舎に溶け込んでいるという意味ではすばらしい内容ではないかと思います．
また，そこから得られる知見がまとまっているという意味では，
他の推奨だけで終わっている著作と違い，どのような覚悟と資格が
必要になるのかをまとめている点が良いのではないかと思います．

田舎暮らしの入門書として捉えると，少し違うのかもしれませんが，
豊かな田舎暮らしに役立つ書籍としてとてもよいと思います．

これまで田舎暮らしというと、雑誌の特集タイトルで目にしてもそれ以上の理解が進まなかった。本書を読んで、いくつかの事例を含めて、その輪郭が見えてきたような気がする。これをヒントに、自分が田舎暮らしができる人か、できない人かを考え、田舎ぐらしができない人なら、何ができる人なのだろう。筆者の農業とは、スローライフとは、なども参考に自分のこの先の生き方を少しまじめに、そして日常的に考えるきっかけになった。働き盛りの方が読むと日常との対比で自分を見つめなおすことができるのでは。
