ニューヨークでの生活経験があるがゆえに、書名に惹かれ、思わず衝動買いしてしまった本。

小気味良い書き方でテンポ良く読め、また、内容もとても面白い。「うん、うん、そうだ、そうだ、こういうところあった」とうなずいたり、「へえ、こんな場所があったのか」と新たな発見に、また行ってみたいものだとある種の「郷愁」を覚えたりと、読んでいるうちに心はニューヨークに飛んでいく。そんな「ニューヨーク・ガイド」である。

もちろんまだニューヨークに行ったことのない人にもお薦め。実際に行くときはこの本を片手に、歩き回るのも一興。ただし、完全にこの本に忠実に歩き回る必要はないのは言うまでもない。当てもなく、ただぶらぶらとしているだけで何かしらの発見があるのがニューヨークなのだから。

在ニューヨーク１年です。この種のガイドブック的な新書は多くありますが、手際良くまとまておりおすすめの一冊。ＮＹビギナーにもそれなりに知っている人、さらに在住者にとっても読めば何らかの発見がある本だと思います。文章も読みやすくプロの手になる一冊、超おすすめです。

ニューヨークの地理・歴史にもの凄く詳しいガイドさんに早口で次から次へと解説を受けながら、マンハッタンをバスで一周したような読後感でした。ニューヨーク観光を控えている方には、ガイド本にプラスしたニューヨーク雑学本として一冊持って行くのに最適ではないでしょうか？
著者の語り口はスピード感に溢れていて、いかにもせっかちなニューヨーカーという感じです。「今を歩く」本だけに話題が一カ所に留まらず、目まぐるしくポンポンと移って行くので、じっくりと一つのテーマで掘り下げて読みたい人には向きません。私は好きでしたが、合う人と合わない人に別れそうです。
あと、「NYッ児」という表現が何度か出て来るのですが、私はこれにちょっと違和感がありました。
