団塊の世代の兄の影響で、小学校６年の夏休みにＶＡＮ
のボタンダウンのシャツを買った小生意気な子供だった身と
しては、石津先生の話しとあらば無条件で購入しました。
そして一気に読みました。
石津先生の知らなかった一面を知らされました。
特に、前半生というべきＶＡＮを立ち上げるまでの話は
初めて読む事ばかりで、興味深いものがありました。

でもＶＡＮストーリーズというタイトルから想像していた
ＶＡＮという会社（石津先生は学校と考えていたそうです。）
が作り出した文化や、倒産した以降に、服飾業界に散った
優秀は方々に受け継がれた遺伝子的な話も知りたかったとい
うのはＶＡＮが好きだった人間の勝手な思い込みかもしれま
せん。

アイビーの洗礼を受けた人は必読です。

私は、VANの製品にはまったく関わっていない世代で、石津謙介氏についても文化人となってからのエッセイや伝説を見聞するだけであったが、ファッションリーダーとして気になる人だった。この本は、書店でたまたま見つけ、購入したときには、VAN/アイビー全盛時代の甘い思い出本と思って期待していなかった。しかし読み始めてみると、深い調査や幅広いインタビューを土台に、著者の熟練した文章作法、ストーリー展開により、一気に読み進めることができた。石津氏にとっては、VANは単なるいっときの現象であり、その生い立ちからヴァンヂャケット倒産後の人生まで一貫した人となり、特に時代をつかみ人を動かす卓越した才能を知るにつけ、本当に偉大な人だったのだということを知ることができた。休日にできの良いさわやかな伝記映画を見た後の感じが味わえる一冊。
