kissaのシューズデザイナーである高田喜佐さんのエッセイ。日本のシューズデザイナーではとても有名な方ですね。シンプルで大人っぽいkissaの布の靴をわたしは定番でよく履いていました。
お母様は詩人の高田敏江さんです。やはり、文章の才も受け継いだのでしょうね、幸田文さん親子を彷彿させる高田敏江さん、高田喜佐さん親子です。

この本は雑誌「メイプル」に連載されたものを再編集してありますが、江戸の粋を売っているお店たちの紹介が中心です。江戸の粋ですから、当然着物にまつわる小物を扱っているお店が多くなっています。今回本の紹介なのにお気に入りのお店というカテゴリーにいれたのは好きなお店、行ってみたいお店が満載だったからなんです。これで一挙にご紹介できてしまう便利な本としてお勧めです。着物の小物だけではなく食べ物から家具や雑貨とても洗練された江戸の粋を目で見、感じることができるのです。ぜひぜひお持ちになってくださいませ。

このエッセイのなかでも私が好きなのは着物にまつわる文章です。ご自身とお母様のかかわりから、ご自分流の着物を着れるようになるまで、お母様の大きな存在に影響されそして、乗り越えて行くその親子としての、女同士としての関係性が、とても共感がもてるのですね。暮らしの中の衣食住、様々な面での母という存在の大きさ、暮らしを伝えて行く女同士の営みが暖かく感じられ、豊かな気持ちになってゆくのです。
写真もとっても美しいです。

着物好きだけど、京のきものじゃなくて、江戸の粋な着物が着たいんだ！と日頃から思っている私には、まさにストライクゾーンなこの本。
著者は靴デザイナーのKISAさん。和服本では常連さんですね。

店選びが利いてます。
銀座とかにある有名な和の店って、実は京都の店、ってことが多い。
和紙の榛原さんとか、帯締めの道明さんとか。

てぬぐい、というと必ず雑誌で紹介される「かまわぬ」さんは現代ものだし。
でもこの本にはちゃんと江戸なりの店が紹介されている。
素晴らしい。

食べ物に半分頁を割いているのが個人的には惜しい。
食べ物は別冊にして、残りの頁をインテリアもににあてて欲しい。

版が小さくて惜しい。是非もう少し大きなサイズの本にしてほしい。

和のもの、といえば京都ばかりが取り上げられるような気がするのは、私の偏見かもしれないけれど、江戸にも長年愛されてきた素敵なものがいっぱいあるはず。それを教えてくれるのがこの本だけど、正直、暮らしに生かす、なんておこがましい。でも、ひとつでもふたつでも、ゆっくりでいいから、こういうものが似合うようになりたい、と思えます。
