人間国宝の文楽人形遣い橘左衛門（たいばなさえもん）の孫で人形遣いの橘左近（たちばなさこん）と相棒の操り人形「右近（うこん）」が、訪れたところで殺人事件に巻き込まれる。

左近と右近が殺人の謎に迫る。右近が殺された者の心理になって語り出すのが見事！

一心同体なのか、二心同体なのか、左近と右近のやりとりが面白いです。大抵しゃべっているのは右近ですけどね。

でも人形はこわいよ~。アンティークだとなおさらこわいよ~。こわさは美内すずえの「妖貴妃伝」以来。こわいよ~。でも読んじゃった第１巻でした。
くれぐれも人形が夢に出ませんように。

小畑先生の画だけなら後の活躍がある程度は納得できますが・・・
多分マガジンの「金田一」、そしてサンデーの「コナン」に対抗する意味で始まった(始められた?)探偵漫画だったんだろう。
3作品の中ではいちばんメジャー受けしなさそうな印象だった。
おどろおどろしい雰囲気と描写が「怪奇漫画」ではないかと思うほどだった。
主人公も人形を操って1人で腹話術をやるってところからして異様。
年も上だったし、少年誌の読者とは視線の高さが合っていなかったのだろう。
とにかく打ち切りでジャンプ編集部の「推理漫画・天下三分の計」はあえなく敗れ去った。
