ソムリエのコンテストに優勝し、世界一のソムリエの称号をもらったが、それを突っ返し、真のソムリエ、そして、はるか昔に一度だけ飲んだワインを捜し求めていく内容。甲斐谷　忍のたんたんとした絵が、とても物語にマッチしていてなにんげなーく読んでいるうちに引き込まれちゃいます。人情味にもあふれ、主人公ジョー・サタケがさいこーにいい味を出して、ほんとお勧めの一品！！

男性は特に、うんちく系のマンガが好きなもの。
本書は、その楽しさを存分に味わわせてくれるものだ。

ただし、本書のメッセージはむしろ
「ワインの知識に惑わされず、人の心を読み取ることの重要性」
にある。

主人公・佐竹は、「肉には赤ワイン」「ボージョレは初心者向けのワイン」といった常識をことごとく覆し、「相手がおいしいと思ってもらうことが重要」という信念を貫き通す。
これには強く共感。
こんなソムリエがいたらなぁと、本気で思ってしまう。

全体に非常に深みのある話が多く、しかもそれが、笑いも織り交ぜながらわりと軽やかに展開されるところは、原作者、作画者双方の実力だろう。
読んでいてさわやかな作品である。

最初はちょっととっつきにくい感じの佐竹がだんだんいい人になっていく過程はほほえましいが、後半はちょっと毒気が抜けすぎて物足りない感じも・・・。

本作は、原作が城 アラキ、漫画を甲斐谷 忍、そして監修とコラムを堀 賢一が担当しています。
絵が好きで買いましたが、毎回様々なワインが登場します。
登場する人々の心の悩みや葛藤を、ワインにまつわる話や主人公佐竹城のワインを愛する姿勢が、見事に解決してくれるお話です。
そして更に、佐竹城の生い立ちの秘密や行方不明になった母探しの結末が、感動のクライマックスになります。
