既刊の『完訳　ファーブル昆虫記』は、失礼ながらフランス語が出来る方が訳した・・・というだけで、ファーブル先生の書かれた昆虫に関する文学的な記述が、それこそ直訳状態だったため、難解を通り越して意味が解らない部分さえ存在しました。(私の理解力不足もありますが・・・)
その点、ファーブル昆虫記を訳すためにフランス文学を専攻された(失礼)といっても過言ではない、Professor奥本大三郎先生が訳されたこの本は、ファーブル先生が日本語で書かれた様な錯覚に陥るほど、完璧な完訳です。
まさに、ファーブル先生を敬愛し、昆虫に限りない愛情を注がれる奥本先生ならではの一冊です。
今まで、私のように某社の完訳本を途中で挫折された方、このシリーズなら一気に読めてしまうのではないでしょうか？
また、見山博氏の細密な挿絵も、非常に素晴らしいの一言です。
本当にお勧めできる『完全なる日本語版・ファーブル昆虫記』、星５つでは少ないくらいです。

ファーブルの時代から１世紀以上経っている今、昆虫学に関する進展は目覚しいものであるのに、今なおこのファーブル昆虫記が愛読されているそのわけが、この第１巻上を読むだけで充分に分かります。昆虫の好き嫌いは全く関係ありません。この魅力溢れる文章、ファーブルの情熱、読み始めるととまらないこの面白さ！単に昆虫についてだけ述べてるわけではないファーブルの人生そのものであるこの昆虫記は、全ての人に感動を与えることでしょう。
とっつきにくいと思われたら、まずは子供用のファーブルの伝記を読んでファーブルについて知ってから読むほうがさらに興味を持ってページを開くことができるように思います。
全ての人に読んでもらいたい！と大声で叫びたくなるくらい、この本が大好きです！こんなすばらしい本に出会えて、こんなすばらしい人生を送ったファーブルを知れて、私は幸せです。
ファーブルへの興味はつのるばかり・・・！

僕たちが小学生の頃から親しんでいるファーブル昆虫記。内容の面白さは確定して
いると言っていい。問題は、この完訳版を買う価値があるかどうかでしょう。

書の構成は、ファーブルの本文一章（下段に虫や草木、動物についての解説付き、
また必要な場合は、昆虫の図版に見開き２ページを使っている）。
そしてその後に訳者の解説（一般的な知識に加えファーブル後の研究によって明ら
かになった点など）が続く、という構成で、特に本文は字が大きくて読みやすいで
す。

つまり、大人は本文と同時に下段、章末の解説と図版を楽しむ事ができ、子供に与
えれば、読みやすい本文と図版を楽しめるという、構成になっていると思います。

僕はファーブル昆虫記が大好きですし、将来子供に託せる可能性も楽しみにして、
このシリーズを揃えようかなと思っています。
