ただただ「普通ではない」「興味深い」事実がずらずらと羅列されている一冊。
雑学とは、何の役にも立たないけれども、知ると「へえ面白いな」と思うような知識のことだ（あのトリビア番組もまさにそういうポリシーで貫かれていました）と思っている人にとってはまさしくこれが本当の雑学本でしょう。
何かの役に立てよう、これで得た知識を何かに活かそう、そんな「高尚」な目的で読む本ではありませんが、読む人が読めばこの本に載っている「不思議な事実」からいろいろと考えてみたり想像したり妄想したりすることも可能でしょう。それこそが雑「学」なのかもしれません。

こんな事があった。
そんなモノがいた。
書いてあるのはただそれだけです。

知識とは、背景や、詳細を知る事で得るものではないのでしょうか？
ただ事実や出来事だけを1137件も列記されても頭には何も残りません。
雑学といえども学問という名がつくのが、雑学なのではないでしょうか？
エンターテイメント性に激しく欠けます。
