日本でよく見かけるキッチン内装の雑誌とか、リフォームのムックとかは正直整いすぎている感じがしていました。もちろんそういうキッチンもシンプルでいいとは思いますが、広さも高さも大したことがない我が家を考えると、理想が先走る感じで…（笑）その点では、この本の中に登場するキッチンの数々はとても新鮮でした。生活感に溢れているのに、何故こんなにお洒落に見えるんだ！？と驚きと発見の連続です。カラフルな小物や、ちょっと個性的なものが大好きな私にとっては今までで一番楽しかったキッチンの本でした。ただ、あまりにもクリエイトな感じのキッチンが多いので、シンプルでスマートなキッチンのほうが好きだという方にはあまりオススメできないです。

キッチンものばかり集めて、今回はパリ。一番モノに溢れて一番薄暗いような？気が。ブリキ缶コレクションや、アンティークの雑貨をどんどん飾って、一見物置の一画のようでも、そこはパリ。不思議な洗練された空間になっています。魔法のようです。私がまねると、「捨てたら、そんな古いの。」と言われかねません（笑）。この雰囲気を目指し、パリっぽく飾るって、一番高度な技だと痛感した本でした。
上記の理由により、シンプルなキッチンを目指す人にはお気に召さないかもしれません。

食も人生の一部！と考えている人には、ちょっと見てほしい。パリに暮らす、クリエイティブな仕事を持っている人のキッチンは、食に対する考え方も変えてしまいそう。例えば、その家に伝わるルイ15世時代からのお皿と、イマドキの食器などを、自由にコーディネイトしてしまう感覚や、キッチンそのものを、主役として見せるワザ。カラフルな自分流の表現などなど、本当に夢が広がります。伝統とイマを生かした表現は、日本人も是非、見習いたいものです。
