復讐に燃える吉岡一門７０余名に対し、武蔵は、先を望まず、先にも後にも寄りかからず、今のど真ん中を繰り返す。つまり１対１を７０回ととらえる。
どこまでも斬り続ける武蔵の何かがこの戦いで変わりそうな予感がする。

作者が９年描いて初めて書けた台詞というのは「有難う」かな。

若き頃の司馬遼太郎が直木賞を受賞する折に、
吉川英治が彼を批判した経緯があったからか・・・

司馬が「真説・宮本武蔵」という短編で、
吉岡一門との死闘は実際におこなわれたものではなかった・・・
ということを、圧倒的な取材力でもって「暴露」したことがある。

しかしながら・・・

長く、本当に長く、日本の映画やテレビや演劇は、
「宮本武蔵」を制作する際に「吉川英治版・宮本武蔵」の呪縛から、
逃れることなどできなかったのである。

「吉岡一門との死闘」は「巌流島の決闘」と並んで、
まさに吉川英治版のハイライトと言えるシーンであったはずだ。

それがどうだろう！

死臭を嗅ぎつけて集結するカラス達の残酷な描写や、
「脳」が生と死との境界線で見せる「幽体離脱」などの、
ユーモラスな表現も手伝って、今までに誰も見たことがなかった、

「井上雅彦版・吉岡一門との死闘」が展開するのである！

こたえられない！ブラボー！本当に素晴らしい！

しかしながら、読者の心を打つのは、
戦いに挑む武蔵が吉岡に対して手を合わせ拝み、
「有難う」と心で念じる、そういったピュアな場面なのではなかろうか。

「感謝」があって、そして「殺し合い」が始まるのである。

　スラムダンクがいつもチラリとなるが、
あれから井上さんもどんどん成長していく、そして武蔵をバガボンドとして
捉えてから、より一そうの男らしさ哲学美学に磨きをかけて、26冊をかぞえる。
その一昨目と比べると、これ以上無い意欲と闘争心で吉川さんと対峙しているのが
分かる。またどこまで上りつめてゆくのかがたのしみである。
　一読推薦いたします。
