漫画の歴史が重なれば、あらゆる手法が出尽くし、
新しいと感じるものは少なくなってくる。

しかし、この一冊には久々にやられた。
歴史物というと、取っ付きにくいと感じる人もいるかもしれないが、
著者は既存の歴史漫画のイメージを見事に覆した。
土を練って全く新しい茶碗を創り上げるかのように、
このテーマで、全く新しい漫画世界を創り上げた。

大胆な構成、読者の想像を超えるセリフ、一癖も二癖もあるキャラ。
そして、デフォルメの効いた生き生きとした表情が、さらに読者を惹き付ける。
特に、主人公・左介の、「顔芸」とも言うべき多彩な表情の数々は、
それだけで笑いを誘い、時に無言で心情を語る。
「緊張感」と「アホ」のバランスが見事で、漫画の力を存分に見せつけられる。

また、装丁から各話のタイトルまで、
遊び心とこだわりが感じられて、見ていて気持ちがいい。

歴史の授業中、資料集の美術工芸品に見とれていた人にはぜひ読んでほしい。
そして、歴史に興味が無いという人にも、おすすめしたい一冊だ。

もともと熱いタッチで知られる作者だが、
『へうげもの』は気合いの入り方が尋常ではない。
まさに「一筆入魂」という言葉がふさわしい。
通説、定説のおもしろさに惑わされず、
史実を基本としながらも、
作者自身の感覚で歴史を語ろうとする姿勢に感服する。
主人公・古田左介の正直さもさることながら、
信長のなんとカッコいいこと。
質実剛健な家康像に、今後は期待大。
長く読み継がれる作品になるよう願ってやまない。

「侘び」を完成させた千利休を知っている方は多いでしょうが、「織部好み」を完成させた人物を知る人は少ないでしょう。そんなマイナー武将・古田左介(重然、或いは織部と書いた方が通りは良いかもしれない)を主人公とした。異色の戦国数寄者漫画。
史実をベースとしながらも極端過ぎる程に特徴的な登場人物達の描写は時に笑わせてくれ、時に感心させてもくれます。山田芳裕氏の著作を読ませて頂くのは此れが初めてですが、実に歴史漫画に向いた絵柄だと感じました。あくまで私の私見に過ぎませんが。
左介の表情や信長のファッション等、此れはやり過ぎだろ、と思う場面も多々有りましたが、不快感は微塵も無く、読後には寧ろ実際はこうだったんだろうなぁ、と思ってしまう不思議な人物像・時代考証を見せ付けてくれる傑作です。
なお、私の購入したものは第二刷だったのですが、表紙右下の「HYOUGE MONO COLLECTION」なるシールは付いていませんでした。初版の特典のようですね。
