映画のカット割りを彷彿させるコマ割りに
漫画表現の奥深さが感じられ、さりげない優しさに満ちています。
悄然と座る女の前に紅茶を差し出す。
池に小石を投じて、水に吸い込まれそうな女を我に立ち返らせる。
女の額に当てた布で涙をそっと拭う。
再会した男にマフラーを巻いてやる。等々……。
既存の映画（カバーはBill Evansの同名タイトル盤）などの影響を感じさせますが、
忘れがたい場面がいくつも用意された傑作です。

素晴らしい作品です。読めば読むほど発見があり、物語に引き込まれました。
銭湯を経営するカナエと、彼女を取り巻く個性的な人々の織り成す日常。
その日常は決して平坦なものではなく、落下や淀みもあるのですが、静かに静かに流れてゆきます。
作中の「人を分かるってどういうことですか」という一言に考えさせられました。
画力もユーモアも十分にある、とても豊かな作品です。

雑誌連載時には地味な印象しか持っていなかったので、軽く流し読みしていただけでしたが、単行本で一気にまとめて読むと、「こんなに秀作だったのか」と驚いています。
普通の市井の人たちに持たせた「二面性」の使い方が実にうまい！人物造形がすばらしいです。ストーリー構成・コマ割りなどもおそろしく丁寧です。
テーマの現代性が多くの人の共感を得られると思うので、是非一読をオススメします。でも、何度も繰り返して読むと、一見地味なだけに最初は気づかなかったような描き込み（一例：堀さんって人のヒゲの長さの変化にご注目）や登場人物たちの気持ちの動きが分かるので、スピードを変えて何度も読むと更に良さが分かると思います。
私にとっては絶対手放せない一冊となりました。
