スチームボーイの絵コンテ集。大友克洋の絵のうまさが分ります。映画も素晴らしい映像でしたが絵コンテもとても緻密で目を見張ります！！また辞書のような形（カバーを外すと辞書そのもの！！）で量も内容もすごいです。映画のスタッフロールのレイアウト、映画では採用されなかった別バージョンの絵コンテなどもあり、とても素晴らしい本です！！

大友が時代の最先端を行っていたのは実はファイヤーボールを描いた頃だと思う。後はひたすら緩やかな放物線を描き下降線を辿りながら才能を消費していたに過ぎない。マンガ家として限界を感じ新たな表現の場にアニメを選び活路を見出だそうとしたが結果はやはり同じドン詰まり状態。それは何故か?手塚の亡霊から一生逃れられないから。宮崎駿がクレバーなのはマンガ家を諦めアニメ界に入った段階で手塚の呪縛から訣別した事。
故に表現者として完全に自由であるため今に至るもトップランナーたり得ている。おそらく宮崎駿の創作力は生涯枯れる事はないだろう。果たして今更大友が手塚の呪縛を断ち切り自ら全く新たに表現者大友を作り上げ再生するだけの余力が残っているかどうか?見物である。
