もう随分昔に全巻夢中になって読んだのを覚えています。
くり返し何度も読み返したとても大好きな作品です。
日本酒は糖化とアルコール発酵を同時進行させる「平行複発酵」と
いう世界でも稀有な手法で醸され、その醸造工程を指揮する杜氏の
技を私に知らしめたのも本書でした。
それ以来皆さん同様日本酒にはまり、旅先では真っ先に地元の蔵や
酒を気にかけ、今では日本酒なしの生活など考えられない状態。
読めば必ず飲みたくなる、というか、本書自体が酒の肴になって
しまう恐ろしい漫画です（笑）。
酒への作者の思い入れ・気迫が、杯を手元に引き寄せてしまうのでせう。
救いは社会人になって結婚してから読んだこと。若いときにもし読んで
いたら、「おらぁ、蔵人になる！」と叫んでいる自分を容易に想像でき
てしまいます。飲み手に徹する事ができる至福をかみ締めています。
「ワインとかより日本酒が好き！」という女性へ、好みが移っていった
事はいうまでもありません。

幻の酒米といわれた龍錦。亡き兄の意思を継ぎ、素人だった（生来のテイスト能力は神掛り的だけど）酒蔵の娘が、手に入れたほんの一握りのその種籾から、様々な試練、協力者の獲得、夢を実現する熱意と執着により、最高の日本酒を作り出す物語です。かなり前に和久井映美主演でドラマ化されたこともあるので、タイトルくらいは記憶にある方も多いと思います。

私はドラマもこのコミックスも実はいままで未見でした。先日偶然この本を手に取り、まるで憑かれたように読みふけってしまいました。新潟に実在する久須美酒造の「亀の翁」というお酒がモデルになっているお話なのですが、そこの「清泉　一番搾り」（これ滅茶苦茶旨い酒）を毎年数本注文して飲んでたのにも関わらず、今の今まで読まなかったことを少し後悔。

有機農法、農薬散布、農家の現状、減反政策など日本の農業が抱える根本的な問題についても提起していますが、それよりも何よりも１つの「作品」を作り上げる「職人」としての杜氏を描いたことに感銘します。職人肌に憧れを持つ方は違和感なくこの物語に溶け込めますよ。私は料理をなりわいとしていますが、もっともっと真面目にやんなきゃな、と襟を正すような気分になりました。

ちなみにこの久須美酒造から現在「夏子物語」というお酒も発売されています。中身は残念ながら亀の翁ではなく清泉ですけど。美味しいですよ。

~離農や嫌農の進む田舎で、幻の酒米を復活させ、それを使った新酒をつくりだしたい若い女性と、その動きを今後の自分たち農業者の糧にしようとする同級生、その酒をもって地域の起爆剤とし、有機農業のむらおこしをしていきたいと考える農業関係者たちの２年間にわたる戦いの記録。何年も前にあのような価値観を打ち出し、世に問うた漫画家はすごい。

保守~~的な農業地帯では、行政や農協のやり方に従うしか生きる道がない。そして、行政や農協の意向は、決して農家や地域のためばかりではなく、時に利権、時に私情が絡み、一歩間違えば、地域もろとも真っ逆さまの薄氷の上にあることも、決してマンガのなかの話ではない。今でこそ、有機農法が高付加価値商品を生む農法として注目を集めているが、こういった苦労話~~は、決してそんな昔の話ではない。そのような現実の中、消費者の私たちにできることは、私たちの価値観をきちんと表明し、農家を選ぶ目を持ち、農家と顔の見える関係を保ち、さらには消費行動できちんと支援していくしかないのだろう。~
