2004年の講談社漫画賞（少女部門）を受賞した「のだめカンタービレ」の第9巻です。
有名な賞（参考までに、2003年はハチミツとクローバー、キミはペット他）を受賞したからといって、
一読者にとっての作品の価値は変わるものではありませんが、コミックの帯に提示された「受賞」の文字が気になって
手にとり、購入されるという方もいるでしょう（書店にて）。

また、ネット漂流の末にAmazon.jpのこのページに辿り着いて、何の因果か当拙文を読んでいる人もいるかと思います。

この作品の魅力は、

・少女漫画ですが、男性でも一切拒絶反応を示さないであろう確かな画力
・主人公「のだめ」と「千秋」のキャラクター設定の確かさと彼らを中心に巻き起こる、「泣き・笑い・怒り・落胆」混在となったギャグ

・オーケストラに馴染みのない人にもオーケストラ、クラシックに興味を抱かせる演奏シーンの描き方
　（そういえば同じ講談社漫画賞を以前に受賞したBECKはロックが題材ですね）
・何と言っても「のだめ」と「千秋」の物理的＆精神的な距離の接近と乖離の妙！

といったところでしょうか。

特にこの第9巻では、ふたりの距離に微妙な、というか、大きな（！）変化が表れます。これは必読に値しますよ。

読んで人生が変わる、とうようなタイプの本では決してないと思いますが（そもそもそんな書物はあるんでしょうか？）
読むことで日々を営む上で感じている負担のようなもの-うまく言えませんが･･･-が軽減される、

簡単に言うと気分が良くなる「快楽漫画」である、と思います。

千秋はのだめのことペットみたいな感じで
恋愛を意識してないと思っていたのですが
千秋がわざわざ福岡まで追いかけていって大川での
あのシーンには驚かされると同時に感動してしまいました。
日本編のクライマックスです。私は今のところこの巻が
のだめの中ではベストです。

のだめは読み返し率の異常に高いマンガですが、
この巻を一番読み返す、という人が多いのではないかと思います。

もちろんずっとここまで読んでこなければなりませんし、
それは全然難しくないです。すぐよめるでしょう。
そして、この間に前半最大の（というか、連載中の
者も含めても最大級の）感動シーンがあります。

絵の描写ももちろん、そこまでの話のもって行き方、
その後の落とし加減、すべてすばらしいです！必読。
