ついに橋を渡りきる。渡ることは渡るのだが、そこにはとんでもないどんでん返しが、隠れている。
橋を渡る孤独感、仲間の存在感。単純なものに人生の姿を重ね合わせていく。
大人が読んでも楽しめる（大人が読んだ方が楽しめる？）作品だと感じた。

５〜８巻は２番目の物語。テーマは２つ。
まずは弱肉強食。
資本主義という醜い社会でしか平等を実現できない我々人間。しかしそんな社会の中だからこそ「思いやり」というきれいごとが好き。他人を蹴落として成功を得ていることを認めることができない。弱肉強食の世を認めることができない。誰かに見られているところであからさまに他人を地獄に突き落とすことを良しとしない。しかし自分の死が迫ればそんな感情もだいぶ変わってくる。
殺らなきゃ殺られる。だから..
きれいごとの通じない世界で人間の弱さを垣間見る。
もう１つは命と金。
命あっての金。両者を天秤にかければ命の方が重いに決まってる。そんなことは分かっている。もし金をやるから死んでくれと言われれば、どんな大金を積まれてもごめんだ。しかし１％でも命と金の両方を手に入れるチャンスがあるなら状況は変わってくる。
彼らは、
「ほとんど死ぬ」
ではなく、こう考える。
「うまくいけば億万長者だ」
しかし死が現実に迫ってきたとき、彼らはただひたすらこう思う。
「死にたくない」
と。
人は孤独。通信により情報は伝わる。しかしそれは不確かな情報。雄弁に並べられる言葉。しかしそれが真実であるかどうかは分からない。確かに伝わるもの。それは肌で感じられるものだけ。つまり、その人間の存在であり温度であり息遣い...
長かった孤独との戦い、鉄骨渡りレースも、この８巻で遂に完結。
巻末で利根川よりも上にいる本当の黒幕が語る「王が王であり続ける仕組みと理由」は、一読の価値あり。

イマの講談社漫画賞は衰退している
選外佳作を無理やり表彰している…そんな状況、状態
　※と云うものの…福本氏も審査員の一人なんだよなぁ


まさかカイジ…ここまでとは思わなかった。
異次元…そう、違う次元にいっていた。
気付いたときには、絶望の城編を読み終えていた。
こんな気分(浦島太郎といえばいいのか)を味わったのは、漫画で2つ目…
　それ故に、絵がもう少し巧ければ、と思う。
　　　　　　絵にもっと力があれば、と思う。
