美少女名探偵、伊万里マリエル登場。大怪盗ベッキオを追って、水の都ベネチアの暗い路地を走ります。時間をかけて熟成された、どぎつさのない上品な推理小説のパロディ。スクリーン・トーンを使わない白と黒のチャールズ・キーピングのように美しい絵。鶴田謙二の懐かしい水の世界。美少女の肌のぬくもりがよく似合います。マリエル一流の独特な変装術の冴え。何気ない喫煙シーンにさえ、『カリオスロトの城』の移り香を漂わせて。希代の名手、会心のイタリア料理。とくと御堪能くださいませ。題名は「忘れ勿草」の英名。

寡作で知られる鶴田謙二の数少ない（不定期）連載をまとめたもの。初掲載が９７年で、ようやく第一巻の発刊に至る（第二巻はいつになることやら・・・）。
運河が縦横に走るヴェネチアの旧市街が舞台。２０年前に盗まれた絵画「Forget Me Not」を取り返せ、という祖父の遺言を継ぎ探偵となった、日伊ハーフのヒロイン伊万里マリエル。対するのは怪盗ベッキオ。

頭脳鋭敏、変装の腕も一流なマリエルだが、どこかピントが外れていたり、巨乳で露出症気味の気があったりと、生き生きとした鶴田謙二ヒロインの系譜は外さない・・・。

探偵VS怪盗という構図らしいが、一向に対決する様子もないし、本編でも事件らしい事件が起こるわけではない。また、いつもの鶴田作品にある古きよき冒険科学小説的雰囲気、センスオブワンダーの色合いは薄い。

いまのところ、展開もゆるゆるとして(なんせ主人公がぼーっとしている場面が多い)今後どう動くのか読めないが、いそぐことはありません。本巻をじっくりと味わって、気長に次巻を待つとしましょう！

　ベネチアで活躍（？）する、ちょっと変わった探偵さんのお話。

　この探偵さん、名前は「伊万里マリエル」と言ってイタリア人と日本人のハーフ。特技は変装...なんだけど、街の人には見破られてばっかり（とほほ）...とそこに届いたイタリア中に名の知れた怪盗ベッキオからの挑戦状...ってな感じで進む、軽妙なお芝居のようなストーリー展開。

　そして丁寧なベネチアの街の描写と猫。ねこ。なんと表紙には表裏あわせて8匹も。実際のベネチアもこんなに猫が多いんだろうか。まあ、主人公からして屋根に上ったり、川沿いの日向に寝転んだり、ちょっと天の邪鬼なところがあったりと、とっても猫っぽいんだけど。ヨーロッパの古い街に特有の入り組んだ狭い路地と、水の都ベネチアならではの美しい水と街の描写が秀逸。あー、行きたいよ、ベネチア。

お話は他愛ないですが、絵がいいです。特に、マリエルの表情が魅力的です。また、すべてフリーハンドの背景にも味があり、全体が絵画のように美しいです。
