パイプ、ネジ、配線、歯車、etc... とにかくごちゃごちゃメカ感を描く時の参考になる。
それぞれのイラストの意外なコンセプトが、欄外のに書き込まれていて面白い。（大友の後付けかもしれないが…。）
アメリカ版での変更点等、こだわりを感じる。
原作ファン向けであり、映画のみの場合は？な点があるだろう。

壮大なコンクリートの荒野を描かせたら大友の右に出る作家はいない。
無限に続く破壊し尽くされた巨大都市の情景が、
衝突し激突し融合し合う直線で徹底的に描かれる。
８０年代、大友の影響を受けた作家は一杯いたが、
わけのわからない異様な重量感と質感を持つ大友描線は
強烈なオリジナリティで他を圧倒した。
大友は恐らくこの本に載ってるＡＫＩＲＡ連載時の扉絵で最高の仕事をしたのだ。
大友の最高の絵を知りたかったら完全に必携だ。
実際、同時期の士郎正宗より遥かに上手いのだ。
デザインセンスも全く恐るべきもので、兵器類や弾着や銃口の発射炎や
戦車の無限軌道や改造バイクや崩壊した建造物を最も上手く表現した作家は
世界的に見ても大友だろう。
大友のデザインセンスといえば何といっても驚異的な画面構成だ。
稠密に描き込まれている部分と白く抜かれた部分のコントラストが実に効果的だ。
手で触れそうな現実感に溢れた物体と妙に白っぽい光に満ちた背景が
直線から成る巨大な異空間を現出させている。
大友描線は大友の完全なオリジナルだが描かれている対象はそうではない。
超能力者のイメージは石森正太郎であり横山光輝であるし、
重畳しながら無限に聳え立ち視界の全てを埋め尽くす巨大建造物群はフリッツ・ラングの
「メトロポリス」であり、リドリー・スコットの超傑作「ブレードランナー」である。
大友は現代を覆うあらゆるイメージを自らの芸術の中に圧縮した状態で徹底的に詰め込み、
壮大無比なジャンクアートを築き上げたのだ。

アニメにはない原作ならではの世界が蘇りました。アニメ版の好きな方も是非一度見て下さい。
