非常に続きが読みたくなった。
ジャングルに残った岡村少佐、彼に何かを見る角松副長。
ここまでの巻の中でもっともスリリングな展開が楽しめた。

『沈黙の艦隊』や『イーグル』においてもそうだったが、かわぐちかいじ氏は、アメリカ人の表情を描くのが本当に上手い。感嘆するばかりである。又、戦前の日本人と戦後の日本人の表情の描き分け方も本当に上手い。（裏を返せば、戦前と戦後の日本人は、表情が違ふと言ふ事なのだろう。）この第４巻を読むと、その事を痛感させられる。

人命救助を目的としておきながら、自らに降りかかる戦いの中で相手を殺してしまう角松副長。平時のモラルと戦時のモラル。草加少佐のいうジパングとは？海軍陸戦隊の救出と陸軍の登場。辻政信の不敵な笑み。
