三国志を代表する人物、「乱世の姦雄」こと曹操を中心に三国志を描き出す歴史コミック。とにかく

圧倒的

その意味は読んでみれば自ずと分かる。自分はこの作品を呼んで、今まで読んできた
全ての漫画という漫画の存在意義を否定された気がした。
自然な流れのストーリーが王欣太氏の絶対的表現能力によって
バシバシ頭に叩き込まれる。自分は感動のあまり何度も読みかえしてしまった。

が、この一巻はあくまでもその流れの助走段階。
あまりその素晴らしさは伝わって来ないかもしれない。
しかしここで読むのを止めてしまうのはあまりにも馬鹿馬鹿しいだろう。

何にせよとにかく素晴らしい。この作品を読まずに終る事は人生単位での損失だろう。

演戯系の吉川栄治の三国志や、それを原作にした横山光輝のマンガから三国志の世界に入った人には、かなりショッキングである。★曹操はにっくき悪役★のはずであった。
でも本書では底なしにかっこいい、１８０度世界がひっくり返る。初めてモーニングで読んだとき釘付けになった。心の中ではトラウマ的に否定しているのに、曹操の爽快さに、脳みその髄が洗われるような思いで、それこそ毎号、このためだけにモーニングを立ち読みをしてしまった。今では曹操が私の一番です。こっち系は三好徹の興亡三国志かな。

圧巻の画力。深いロマンを予感させる展開。劉備や董卓等、濃密な魅力を備えて描かれる登場人物達。これはスゴい三国志漫画だ！と一気に引き込まれたのだけれど…

どうも官渡の戦い周辺ぐらいから、少しずつ作風が変わり始める。
端的に言うと現代日本人（もっと言えば、ゴンタ氏のその時）の感性をそのまま古代中華の世界に投影するような解釈・表現が目立つようになるのだが、これは手っ取り早く感情移入を促進する装置あるいはその場限りのアクセントにはなり得ても、歴史素材を扱う「方法」としては明らかに限界がある。
物語後半に入るとネタ切れ・似たり寄ったり感（荊州時代の劉備の描き方や「徳」のエピソード等、優れたものもある）がどうにも付きまとい、読んでいてなんとなく退屈してしまうシーンが多くなりました。
おそらく著者は長編には付き物の「飽き」、あるいは何らかの迷いを消化しきれぬままに、それでも完結を目指して必死に筆を執り続けたのではないだろうか。ハイテンションな作風を表層の部分では変わらずに保っている分、むしろ「苦しさ」が伝わってきてしまって…。気迫と忍耐には敬意を覚えるが、作品としては無論良くない。
原作者・李氏の連載中の死去は、やはり大きく影響していると思う。

他、主役である曹操の描き方に人間としての有機性が（著者の意図するところに反して）感じにくい点、正史の引用がアンフェアかつおかしすぎる解釈が多くてむしろ不要に思えるところ等が、自分としては好きになれませんでしたが、
初期のずば抜けた面白さ、終始際立っていた画力＆要所での演出センス、三国志モノとしての数々の革新的要素並びに影響力（演義と正史の枠組みに縛られない形式の定着とか）、といったプラス要因を含め総合的に考え合わせて、なんとか星４つ、という評価です。
三国志ファンならばなんらかの感想を持つことは間違いない、特徴的な作品。
