　中山康樹の、特にビートルズ関連の書籍は今時あり得ないほどに保守的で、特にサイケデリックやアバンギャルド作品に対する過小評価があまりにも酷いため、とてもお勧め出来る内容ではないし、自分でもある時期以降買うのは控えていた。

　だが、これは珍しく「読める」内容だ。近年の研究をもとに検証していくスタイルであるゆえに、保守性が顔を出す余裕がなかったとも思えるが、独自の検証になっている部分でも（かなり強引な論調や事実誤認は散見されるが）過去の著作（ビートルズものに限らず）で感じられた不快感は全くと言うほど無かった。中山康樹の文章が苦手な向きにもお奨め出来る。

　ちなみに個人的にはバーナード・パーディが「リンゴの代わりに叩いた」と言っている、という件を扱ったコラムが最も興味深かった。なお、コーネル・デュプリーについても本文で最後に触れられ、彼が「第二のパーディ」ではないと信じたい、と中山は書いているのだが、デュプリー自身「パーディは嘘つきだが最高のドラマーだ」と語っていると言うことを補足として記しておきたい。

散々中山氏の著作には立腹し続けてきましたが、
やっと最後まで読める本にあいました。(爆)

といっても、端々に中山節はでていましたが、
我慢はできますよ。

内容は陳腐ですが、視点が面白い。
問いかけしている問題はＯＫ！
回答はないよう〜ですね。

もう少しまじめに調査してれば回答も得られるかもしれないのに、
こういうところが、中山氏ということですね。(笑)

まぁ、答えが無くっても我慢できる人はどうぞ。

本書は、ビートルズの歴史に相当に詳しく、かつ、ビートルズの変遷を歴史的に解明することに興味がないと、興味もって読み進められないように思う。ビートルズの歴史上の定説を疑い、あらためて自由に考え直してみるという問題提起として読みたい。
