いつもは過剰とも思えるほどキャラクターをつくりこんでいる印象の西尾さんですが、刀語はキャラクターのみならず、文章そのものが薄い気がします。だからさくさく読めますが、だから物足りなく感じます。この調子で続けていくのは、ちょっと…著者にとっても読者にとっても不幸な作品になる気がします。好きな場面もあるので今後に期待して星3つです

12ヶ月連続刊行の1作目，西尾氏初の『時代もの』になります．

そのためか，氏の作品に多いコミックなどからのユーモアはなく，
『楽しい西尾作品』をお望みならば，ピンとこないかもしれません．

とはいえ，絵に描いたような『時代劇』というふうでもなく，
三人称視点ではあるものの，言葉まわしなどはまさに氏のそれ．
これまでの作品が楽しめたのであれば，違和感は少ないでしょう．

しかし『萌え』『ガード』など，およそ時代とはあわない言葉や，
読み手側を意識したようなセリフや語りは，好みがわかれそうです．
また，登場人物に過去作を連想させるものが多いのも気になりました．

ただ，全12冊のうちの1作目．いかにも『これから』という最後でしたし，
全体的にもおとなしめの感じから，この1冊が大きな序章になるのでしょう．
まだまだ先は長いだけに，期待しつつも，もう1-2作は様子見になりそうです．

余談ですが，巻末の敵紹介は，いかにもというセンスで楽しかったです．

12ヶ月連続刊行という事で期待をしていたのですが、
やはり戯言シリーズを超えることが出来ませんでした。
特に決闘の最後のオチがひどすぎる。
戯言シリーズでの殺害トリックに続き、またしても西尾さんの悪い面が・・・
値段に見合った作品ではないように感じました。
