5.0 out of 5 stars シリーズ物の原点が、見える。, 2009/6/12
ジャック・リーチャーの放浪生活前の軍隊時代が語られる。

いつも、かっこよく、読んだ後スッキリするが、シリーズの自由奔放、悪者をすぐに、やっつけるのとは、ちょっと違って、軍隊の中で、権力と戦いながら、悪者をじっくり探す。

軍隊を辞めた理由は、分からないでもないが、主人公の出生や家族（フランス人の母）の秘密が、初めて登場する。勧善懲悪、小さいな不正や死んでしまった者へのささいな配慮も、主人公は、気持ちいい。

毎年、1冊づつ書かれているが、今回は、受賞のオンパレード。シリーズは、13冊目だが、日本での翻訳は、4冊目。原作が、英語で、スラスラ読めたらと思う。

　ベルリンの壁崩壊。予想されるソビエト連邦の解体。世界的な体制変化が起こると「世界警察」を自負するアメリカ各軍は編成や部隊配置を変化させる。海兵隊・海軍・空軍ものはわりと目にしますが、この本は陸軍内部のお話でした。お決まりの権力抗争と陰謀の嵐と言えばそれまでなのですが、活字のでかさもあいまって、なぜか上下巻一気に読んでしまいました。基本、アメリカ軍部や軍を統括する政治の世界の話が好きだからなのかもしれませんが、スピード狂のキュートな黒人女性の相棒もいい味出してましたし、終末期にある母の死に対する価値観、また兄との関係、などがストーリーに深みを加えており、単なる軍隊ものミステリーとは一線を画していたからでしょうか。結局正義とは何かを問うアメリカ人好みの小説という見方もできるかもしれません。でも、理屈抜きで一気読みでした。
