あっという間に読んでしまいました。とても面白い小説だった。
但し、推理小説としては価値なしですね。
10年前の殺人犯人は何故被害者を特定できる遺留品をそのまま残していたのか？
殺人時に処分しておけば、のこのこ洞窟に出かけずに済んだはずです。
尤も、この小説の大前提が無くなりますが。
殺人事件が絡んでいなければ、冒険小説としては面白い作品だったと思います。
ケイビングの面白さが判っただけでも価値ありです。

ケイビング（洞窟探検）という素材は新鮮だが、その内容は、過去に
傷を持つ男がウジウジするという、乱歩賞ではお馴染みの展開である。
まるで乱歩賞の応募規定になっているかのようで、、何作も乱歩賞作品
を読んでいると、いい加減にしてくれと思いたくなる。
話自体は『ホワイトアウト／真保裕一』に似ていると思った。

洞窟探検というとなんとなくワクワクする。
題名は忘れたが江戸川乱歩の作品に洞窟を探検する話があって、
子供の頃ワクワクして読んだ記憶がある。

この作品にも確かにワクワク感がある。
それがこの作品の最大の売りだろう。
しかし、それ以上に、あまりにも荒削りというか未熟であり、
多くの欠点がある事も事実である。
ミステリーとして読まず、冒険小説として読んだ方が良いだろう。

素材自体は面白いので、書ける作家が書いていたら、もっと面白い話
になっていただろうという気がする。

ネット評を見ると、厳しい評価が多いようですが、私は大変楽しめました。
一般に絶賛されている巷で流行したタイプの小説が苦手なのと、往年の田中光二や稲見一良が好きなので、その流れを感じるこの話は、私にはツボだったのかもしれません。
作為的な演出がほとんどなく、あくまでもオーソドックスで骨太な小説だと思います。
ミステリーというよりは、冒険小説、あるいはサバイバル小説として読んだほうが違和感ないかもしれません。洞窟描写や、どうやって彼らが生き延びるかなど、読み応えありました。
久しぶりに「読み終わるのが惜しい」と思った本です。

正直言えば、もうちょっと長くし、登場人物それぞれをもっと細かく描写してもよかったかなとは思いましたが、無駄を限りなく削ぎ落としたという見方も出来るかもしれません。
ご都合主義的になりそうでぎりぎりにならなかった部分が、最後に主人公が到達する域の描写になっていて、とても感動しました。
今後も追って読んでいきたい作家です。
