読んだ後も爽やかな気持ちにはなるし、まあ面白いんだけど、精神を病んで入院している人達二人で旅をするっていうのがちょっと無理があると思った。男の方は入院する必要が無い人に見える。そこがずっと気になった。

躁鬱病の「あたし」と鬱病のなごやんが福岡の精神病院を脱走。なごやんとともに古い車で逃亡する「あたし」・二十一歳の夏の物語。
九州の土地土地が印象深く映し込まれている見事なロードノベルである。「あたし」の話す博多弁（ちらりと登場するその他の九州地方の方言）も堪能させてもらった。多くの人が指摘しているとおり、著者の類まれな方言センス？に感心した。（と言って、博多弁を知っているわけではないけれど）

著者の本には、内容と作品の醸す味わいが異なるものが多いという印象がある。本作も、切実で苦しく、常に終わりの予感をはらんだ物語なのに、豪快でユーモラスで開放的なイメージ。不安や感傷が覗くけれどあくまで時々（だからよけいに効くというところがある）。博多弁がバンバン出てきて、九州の熱くて広々とした大地を巡る話なのだから、線の細い物語になるはずもなかろう。このギャップを「おもしろい」と感じるか、「物足りない」「書けていない」と感じるかはそれぞれだと思う。わたし自身はおもしろく読んだが、これが正解か・・・と問われれば、わからない。ただ、病や脱走、犯罪行為などがぞんざいに書かれているわけではないと思うし、九州のどっしりとした土地柄と、「わたし」の土着的感性がいい具合に重石になっていると感じた。軽みはあるけど軽々しくはない。

なごやんがとてもチャーミングで、二人の関わりがいとおしく、せつなく思えた。博多をこよなく愛する「あたし」と、出身地の名古屋を疎みかたくなに標準語で話す「東京オタク」のなごやん。けれど言うほど名古屋嫌いじゃなく、それどころか愛着が見え隠れして、逃亡の果てに彼は「くそたわけっ」と名古屋弁で叫ぶ。ふるさとを恋い慕う物語でもあった。

男気溢れ、そして優しい物語を創作する彼女ならでは作品です。精神病院から抜け出した男女二人の1000ｷﾛに及ぶﾛｰﾄﾞﾉﾍﾞﾙ。しかしこの旅は魅力的に輝いています。なぜならすごく楽しそう。幻聴や幻覚に惑わされても、なごやんとケンカしても、車中泊が続いても、彼らの旅は凄く楽しく写る。それは作中にある、「でも、してもよかよ」「いかんがあ」「なして？」「恋人じゃない人としたらいかんて。俺じゃなくても。誰とでもそうだからね」という会話に集約されているのです。この関係性こそこのﾛｰﾄﾞﾉﾍﾞﾙを成功に導いている要素であると思うのです。絲山さんの作品の男女の関係性は本作だけでなく、他作品にも見られます。その描き方が女性作家の優しさなのかもしれません。表現が直接的で男気溢れる主人公ですが、作者のこの優しさが、主人公の女性像を引き立てているのです。
