1974年大阪府生まれ。2001年「卵の緒」で第7回坊っちゃん文学賞大賞を受賞。翌年、単行本『卵の緒』(マガジンハウス)でデビュー。2005年本作『幸福な食卓』(講談社)で第26回吉川英治文学新人賞を受賞し、2007年には同作が映画化され話題となる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

読みやすさ、そして程よく感情移入することのできる文体が
瀬尾さんの特徴ではないか、と私は思っています。
また、派手な展開はありませんが、心に沁みてくるものばかりです。

主人公の数年間を通して語られる出会いや別れ、
家族、恋人という存在をもう一度考えさせられます。

安っぽく描かれがちな恋愛や死というものを、
瀬尾さんの作品ではリアルに捉えることができます。

是非読んでほしいですという意味をこめて、星５つ。

たくさんのレビューをみて感じたこと。

1.父親の自殺未遂の原因がわからない
　　だからいいんですよ。推理小説ではないので、すべてに解答を与える必要なし。
　自殺未遂した事実だけが重要で、あとは想像してください。

2.両親の心の葛藤が見えない。
　　母親はPTSDになってしまっている。それは、自殺未遂した風呂場を毎日
　毎日ピカピカに磨くことでわかる。自分のこころのバランスを取るために
　やること、話すこと、生活ぶりが大雑把、大らか。葛藤の末の、身のおき
　方だ。

3.内容が薄いから軽く感じる。
　　状況設定から言えば、もっとドロドロしてもっと感情を直接的にゆすぶる
　小説になってもいいが、それでは芸がない。感情表現が薄いほど、読み手の
　こころはゆらぐ。（そう読めない人もいるようですが）
　ふんだんにかかれる食卓を飾る料理の数々。これもこの小説では大切な小道具だ。

状況設定もテーマも結構重い。軽妙に、コミカルに、軽薄っぽく書かれれば
書かれるほど、こっちは深読みしてしまう。実に計算ずくの小説と
言わざるを得ない。

人間関係の複雑な世の中。その人間関係に悩む人は少なくないはず。会社や学校、家族、恋愛。楽しい人生の裏に素敵な人間関係があり、そのまた裏に複雑な人間関係があります。
人間関係につかれてしまったとき、ふっと現実から逃避したくなったときに、実社会に戻る強さをくれる一冊です。
正直に生きる等身大の女子高生の姿に強く生きることための勇気をもらいました。
