胸の奥がヒリヒリする。
子供時代、無限の可能性を信じていた。少しずつ大人になり　現実を知ることで、その可能性をひとつずつ塗りつぶしていった。
世界が拡がるにつれ　身に沁みて感じるのは、いかに人間が小さく孤独であるか　ということ。
それゆえに求め合い、役割を演じようとすること。
込み上げるやるせなさと　切なさが　痛い。
その中に　ほんの少し懐かしさが混じるのは、大人になったから？！

川端氏のファンには　”リスクテイカー”や”Ｔｈｅ　Ｓ．Ｏ．Ｕ．Ｐ．”が隠し味として少々。
お子様お断り！！　大人のための小説です。

中学1年の「ぼく」は友人のクボキ、やっちゃんとともに学校の裏山でパラボラアンテナを備えた奇妙なあばら屋を発見する。
そこに住む世捨て人の中年男「せちやん」と仲良くなった3人は、天文、宇宙の音楽、文学についてはからずもせちやんから学んでいく。

裏表紙の短いあらすじを読んだときは、天文にかこつけたファンタジー小説かと思いました。不思議な男の指導で少年たちが宇宙を覗いているうちに、
本当に宇宙人に出会うという…。ところが、蓋を開けてみると、これは紛れもない人間小説。少年の頃の夢や思い出を引きずりながら、
時代の波にのまれ吐き出されていった「ぼく」の物語でした。

宇宙からのメッセージと、それを馬鹿みたいに探し続ける人の哀切を描いた小説です。人の深さや儚さを叩きつけられます。
また、観測についてかなり専門的な内容にも触れてあり、著者の取材力の高さを思わせました。

SETIの話と聞いて、彼の『夏のロケット』みたいな青春物かと思ったんだけど、全然違っていた。

むしろ、苦い読了感の小説だ。でも決してイヤな小説ではない。果たせなかった夢ってあるよなぁ。自分もそういう年代になって若い頃の夢を思い出すこともある。そのときに甦る甘い思いと苦さ、それがこの小説の持ち味だ。

この前は『川の名前』で身近な自然、今回は広大な宇宙。彼の作品の広がりを感じる。
