シリーズとなっている新・金融腐蝕列島。今回はUFJ銀行誕生をモデルとしており最後まで一気に読めてしまった。主人公が格好よく、女にもてる設定となっており課長島耕作を彷彿とさせる。高杉作品は一サラリーマンのドラマチックなところを抜き出してくれ、悪を成敗しながら信念をまっとうする姿に共感。読み終わった後元気がでてくる作品だ。お奨め。

　金融再編をエリート部長の目からみた経済小説です。上巻は、統合合意まで、そして下巻は、合意後のさまざまなシリアスなドラマが途切れることなく展開していきます。読者として一度に読み終えたくなる作品です。
　また、本書は、展開するストーリーとは、別の楽しみ方ができます。例えば、入行年次や出身大学を意識していること。評価は、派閥や個人の持つ性格で決まること。また、スーツ着用のＴＰＯなど、銀行員の思考や行動、組織のルールがが随所に描写されていて、銀行が持つ独特な社会を垣間見ることができるのも、本書の面白味だと思います。
　でも、老婆心ではありますが、元部下の女性との性交渉の描写と、やたらに多い小便の描写は、果たしてこの作品に必要なのでしょうか？要らないような気がするのですが？一言、付け加えさせていただきます。

　またあんまりこの主人公は働いていないんだよな〜。つごうよく友人が出てきて秘密情報を漏らしてそれをトップに伝えて手柄顔の連続。そして、中途半端に関与しつつも責任のがれのように身を引きつつ、上層部をシニカルに批判して・・・。正直このラッキーマンには共感を覚えません。
　あと、主人公から逃れるために会社を辞めて英国に留学したはずの２０代そこそこの不倫相手とも偶然再会して、それからはおきまりのパターンです。。。この娘はなにをしにこの小説に登場しているんだろう？
