この小説は”竜について”語っているのではなく”竜の正体について”語っているので、”竜という幻想生物について”のファンタジー的な興味で読むのはお奨めしません。
”竜の正体”という考え方はつまり、竜はファンタジーの中に出てくるような形では実在しない、という主張でもあるわけですから。

また上にある「出版社からの内容紹介」からもわかる通り、語られるその竜の正体というのは「龍=ロケット　神=エイリアン」という荒唐無稽なもの。残念ながら主人公でありこの説の提唱者である九鬼虹人の語る情況証拠は、オカルト好きでない読者を納得させられるようなものではありません。
ですからオカルト好きの方は普通に読んで楽しみ、そうではないがオカルトアレルギーでもないという方は、トンデモ本やＭＭＲを読んでいるつもりで笑いながら読むのがいいと思います。もちろんオカルトアレルギーの人は絶対に読まない方がいいでしょう。

とは言えベストセラー作家さんだけあって、キャラクターは立っているしキャラ同士のやり取りも味があって面白いと思います。
そして何度も出てくるアクションシーンや知略謀略を駆使した対決も読みどころの一つ。プロとプロの裏のかきあいがかなり読ませます。
また、日本神話を含めた各国様々な神話について触れた上で薀蓄が語られるので、それを楽しみながら読める人も多いはずです。

エンターテインメント小説としては良作なので、あとは結局オカルト要素の荒唐無稽さが許せるかどうかが大きなポイントになるでしょう。
荒唐無稽さが竜の正体の部分だけでなく、例えば１・２巻は現代が舞台ですが３巻以降はタイムスリップして過去にいくということ、５・６巻では宮沢賢治や江戸川乱歩も登場するということも参考にしてください。

ちなみに祥伝社から出ている「新・竜の柩」などのタイトルを見かけるとこのシリーズがどうなっているのか混乱するかも知れませんが、この講談社文庫版の１・２巻が「竜の柩」に、３・４巻が「新・竜の柩」に、５・６巻が「霊の柩」にそれぞれ対応しているので、講談社文庫だけでシリーズ全作を揃えられます。

古事記に登場する神々をわかりやすく紐解いてかつ大胆に書き下ろしている作品です。
最初の方は難しい内容が続きますが気が付けば高橋ワールドに引き込まれています。
長編小説で、すばらしい完成度だと思います。

特に期待もせず、人に薦められるまま読み始めたのですが、あっという間にこの世界に引き込まれてしまいました。

現代科学や歴史からはありえないはずの日本古代史ですが、むしろそれが「本当はそうだったに違いない！」と信じられるほどに、現代に残された文献・史跡・逸話を筆者ならではの深い洞察力と独創的な視点で読み解き、仮説の裏付けにしています。歴史とUFO、宇宙人に少しでも興味を持った経験のある人はハマるのではないでしょうか？

2系統の神社、ピラミッド、ロケット、UFO、宇宙人が登場するこの歴史仮説は信憑性100％ではないにせよ、0%とは言い切れないもうひとつの日本古代史だと思います。
