遂に、中途半端で終わってしまった。伏線として出てきた人物の隗囂に馬援もおざなりに
され、読者はおっぽり出される。光武帝の即位後も10年ほどは、中国の東半分では劉永ら
群雄と戦い、更に、西半分で隗囂と公孫述と戦うことになるが、それらが無い。赤眉軍の
力子都と遅昭平が話から外れることで、物語が閉じられる。つまりタイトル自体が間違っ
ている『光武帝』じゃなくって『赤眉』だ。

光武帝は他所の歴史ダイジェスト本だと、王莽打倒に関わり。
王郎と赤眉軍としか戦ってないような書かれ方してますが。

実際は即位後も２０ぐらいの軍勢と戦い、家臣の雲台二十八将が
育陽のトウ奉戦、隴西の隗囂戦、成都の公孫述戦などで失われるなど
即位後からが本当の戦いとも言えます。

統一までに二十八将が半数になってしまう所といい、二十八将は星座の二十八宿に
なぞらえてある所といい、フィクションで盛り上がれる部分も多いのですが
本書もその美味しい所目前で完結。

最後まで「あれ〜？」としか思えない内容でした。
普通に史実を丸写ししても、三国志並に長い話になるはずなんです。
本当は！

この巻も、言ってない言葉が名言扱いになってたり、意味不明の
戦術が登場したりと素人同人誌レベルの内容でしたが、せめてちゃんと
完結させてくれる人にこの時代の話を書いて欲しいと切実に思いました。

　劉玄政権内の粛清の嵐を潜り抜け、河北経略の中に運命の活路を見出した劉秀ですが、行く手には漢朝宗室を僭称して地元の豪族勢力を糾合する王郎一派が立ちはだかっています。逆境をはね返し、反王郎勢力を結集するため、劉秀は左右の勧めにしたがって、ある思い切った手に出るのでした。
　銅馬などの反乱勢力を傘下に収め、河北に地盤を得て威信と実力を高めていく劉秀。王莽政権を倒して天下を手中としつつ、中原の混乱を収拾し切れず、日いちにちと天下の信を失っていく劉玄一派。赤眉の動向が微妙な兆しを見せつつある中、果たして天下の帰趨は如何に。そして劉秀と陰麗華嬢との紆余曲折は、果たして何処に向かうのでしょうか。

　我らが主人公の劉秀君、長安の太学で儒教を修めていた頃には、「官に至らば金執吾、妻を娶らば陰麗華」（役人になるなら警視総監、嫁さんもらうなら陰家の麗華嬢）などと夢想していたのだとか。後に中華の皇帝になる男の台詞とは思えません。項羽や劉邦の故事に比較すれば、如何にも堅気で、些か小市民的とすら言えるかも知れません。
　塚本氏の筆になる劉秀の伝記小説も、本巻で大団円を迎えます。小説としては、どうもいま一つ盛り上がりに欠けるような気もしますが、秀君の生真面目さがそれなりによく表現されているのではないでしょうか。
