以前の直木賞で何かと話題になった作品です。

構造的欠陥があると言う人もいますが、そんな風には思いませんでした。
実際、可能・不可能、あり得る・あり得ないを論じても仕方ない。ノンフィクションじゃないんだから娯楽小説として楽しめれば良いじゃあないかと。

直木賞の某審査員からすれば、そんな私は見る目が無いのかもしれませんが……
むしろ、事件の核心に関わることですから深くは書けませんけれど、ああいう例外が認められる社会であって欲しいです。


ただ、他の方が書いているようにノンフィクションなら実際あんな熱い検察官やらが存在するのかは疑問。
この作品を読んだあと『それでもボクはやってない』を映画で観て、何とも言えない脱力感に襲われました。

読んでいる間は、作品の世界に没頭できる良い作品です。

刑事畑一直線の警官が警視だったり（ありえない）、キャリアでもないボンクラの警部が出てきたり（あれで昇進試験は通ったのか？）、司法試験合格組でロクに現場を知らない検事が妙に勘が冴えていたり（検事が捜査することは殆どない。言葉使いも威圧的で眼光鋭い検事など実際にはマズ居ないタイプ）だが・・・それらを度外視しても感情移入できるだけの文章力は流石だ。やはりプロだ！話自体は意外と言うほどのことはないが、小説は「結末よりも、その進行過程が大事」という見本のような作品だ。値段以上の価値を認める。

ストーリーそのものは良いと思います。
刑事や新聞記者、弁護士や裁判官など視点が変わるので飽きずに読むことができます。
ただ、最後から20ページ前でまだ２日間の空白の謎が解明しておらず、真相が判明する箇所がリアルタイムな描写でないのが残念でした。
やっかいな囚人を抱えたと言っていた刑務官の心変わりにも、少し無理があるように感じ、
ラストはやはり弁護士の章がもう１度必要だったのではないかと思いました。
