4.0 out of 5 stars 不思議な物語もやがて着地点を見つけて・・・, 2007/2/25
　上巻での「僕」は妻に去られようが、会社がトラブルに巻き込まれようが、どうでもいいと思っているかのような無気力な印象の人物。どこか捉え所のない男で、彼が出会う人々も「特殊な能力の耳をもつ女の子」とか「羊に取り付かれた大物右翼」とか現実感が持ちにくい感じだ。そのために物語の世界に入り込むのがむずかしかったが、下巻にはいると大きく物語も「僕」も動き出す。
　下巻では「羊博士」や「羊男」など印象的な人物が絶妙にストーリーに絡んでくる。最後の山奥での出来事は、幻想的でありながら、熱い血の流れを感じさせる感動的なシーンで、この長い小説をほっぽり出すことなく読んだ者へのプレゼントといえる。上巻の停滞感も含めて、細部まで計算しつくされた小説ではある。

村上　春樹さんが「風の歌を聞け」で、その独特の文体で、しかもいろいろな仕掛けをちりばめた小説でデビューして、続く「１９７３年のピンボール」でその手法を確かにした後の、鼠３部作の最後の作品。

ここで初めて、村上さんのストーリーテラーとしての小説を完成させます。

この作品から、村上作品には欠かす事の出来ない様々な事柄（主人公はトラブルに巻き込まれ、自身に非は無い点や、魅力的な彼女が大きな分かりやすい理由もなく主人公と行動を共にする事、固有名詞の使い方の絶妙さ、一癖ある脇役、などなど）が表れます。
私個人的にはやはり「世界の終わりとハードボイルド・ワンダーランド」には劣ると思いますが、素晴らしい作品です。

後の傑作「ダンス・ダンス・ダンス」を読む為にも、オススメ致します。

10年ぶりに再読した。後半は一気に読んでしまった。同著者の「海辺のカフカ」のように、村上氏の作品の中には、なにかえたいのしれない、どろっとした悪が描かれている。暴力的でない、軽い空間なのだが、存在感があり、空気が冷たくなりぞっとするような感覚に読みながら驚かされる。再び読んだラストシーンも印象的だった。シンプルな表紙の絵の映画をずっと見ているような、村上ワールドに魅了される。
