　宇宙規模の善悪二元論、古代の超文明、ムー大陸の末裔たる吸血鬼、米ソスパイ組織の暗躍、孤独なダークヒーロー、美女、美少女、アクションにエロスと何でもありの世界観は、破綻することなく今読んでも古臭くなく面白いと思います。前半に舞台となるパリの描写は石畳の臭いまでしてきそうな雰囲気があって、主人公の内面にぴったりマッチしており読ませます。文中イラストはないのですが、巻頭の人物紹介をかねたカラーイラストや表紙から、ハードな内容とは想像しにくいアンバランスさもかえって面白いかと思いました。

初版が昭和56年の角川ノベルズ創刊と同時に書き下ろしされ、当時高校生だった私を魅了したＳＦ伝記スパイ小説の復刊です。物語は、8000光年離れた白鳥座Ｘ-１からもたらされた未知なる宇宙生命体からのメッセージと交信するためにアリゾナ砂漠に極秘に作られ完璧な防御体制に守られたＮＡＳＡ宇宙通信基地が、謎の武装一味に襲撃される冒頭から始まります。一体、誰が、何のために・・・。著者自身が好きだという「宇宙の善神と悪神の闘争」「幻のムー大陸伝説」「ＣＩＡとＫＧＢの暗闘」「吸血鬼」等々の魅惑的な要素を全て取り込みながら、世界的に有名なテロリスト九鬼、謎の物質第３の核酸を体内に持つ美少女キキが大活躍する物語です。上に述べたような要素が好きな方、大伝記小説が好きな方にお奨めの面白いシリーズです。

その重厚なストーリィとストイックな文体で、中学時代の私を魅了した「ヴァンパイヤー戦争」が帰ってきました！
かつて生頼範義氏や天野喜孝氏が彩ったカバーはTYPE-MOONの武内崇氏によってカッチリしたキャライメージを捉えやすく描かれています。
この物語、特筆すべきは笠井ミステリファンにはおなじみ矢吹 駆が名前を変えて登場していることです。１巻にちょろっと出ている彼、ムラキの活躍は後のお楽しみ。
あなたは「ヴァンパイヤー」を読んでから矢吹シリーズを読みますか？
それとも矢吹シリーズを読んでから「ヴァンパイヤー」を読みますか？
２重に楽しめることは請け合いです。
