福井晴敏のフアンで、ほとんど全てを読んできたと思う。
で、福井晴敏にとって処女作品である本作を読んで、まさに感激。
まさに後の全ての作品に通じるものが、ここに凝縮されているような感じがある。
その意味では、この作品を最初に読んで、福井本に入るのがいいのかどうか。
実際処女作とはいえ、その完成度はピカイチだと思う。

アクション、謎解き、陰謀、そして何より人の情け。
可憐な少女と、けなげな若者。残り火を消してない失意の大人。
登場人物のヒトとしての魅力もここにあり。
まさに福井フアン必読の書であることは間違いない。

福井晴敏氏の他の作品（Twelve Y.O.、亡国のイージス、終戦のローレライ）
を読了後に本作を読みましたが、良く言えば、先に挙げた３作の原型であり、
悪く言えば未完成形という印象です。
登場人物の造形やストーリーに類似した点が多く、特に「亡国~」の完成度
の高さと比較してしまうと、物足りなさは否めません。

しかし、ファンであれば作者の歴史を知る意味で有意義かもしれません。
そういう視点で読めば、登場人物が背負う過去に由来する葛藤など、人間の
内面を読ませる術がうまくなったのだなあ、と感心できます。
逆に、あまりキャラ設定が変わってないなあ、という不安も抱きますが、
桃山系のキャラの扱い方は非常にうまいですし、福井氏の作品にはもはや

必須のキャラかもしれません。
本作から読まれる読者ならば、入門書としても丁度良いですし、氏の作品の
中ではやや劣るものの、安定した面白さは間違いなくあります。
これからも素晴らしい作品を生み続けるであろう注目の福井氏ですから、
今の内に刊行順に読んでおけば、乗り遅れずにすむかもしれません。

本作に関しては、聞かれれば「面白かった」と私は答えます。

亡国のイージスを読んで非常に感動して、Twelve Y.O.とこの川の深さはを買いました！
やっぱり同じ福井さんの作品だけに予想どうり素晴らしかったです。
人物の設定がすごくいいと思いました。
それと、言葉に語りかけるような重みがあります。
読んでみてください。
