編集者である夏美はある日、夫・一宏から「ほかの女性に恋している」という事実を告白される。しかし動揺収まらぬなか、夏美も郵便局員の成生と恋に落ちてしまって・・・。

単なる浮気の恋物語でも、新しい夫婦像を描いた物語でもない。
夏美と一宏、二人のそれぞれの恋は純粋で、一生懸命だ。決して浮気だと割り切っているわけではない。

だけど、二人は決して別れない。

「小さなラブアフェアで失うにはあまりにも惜しい人」
お互いをそう思う二人は、どこかずるい。
だけど恋人じゃなくなってしまっても、お互いが「絶対に失いたくない人」であり続ける二人の関係は、とても素敵だ。

どうしようもなく恋に落ちてしまう切なさを知りながら、大事なものを失わないための努力を忘れない、大人の恋愛小説。
切なさがこみ上げる山田詠美ワールドは健在だが、いい意味で肩の力が抜けたような小説だった。「ぼくは勉強ができない」の主人公である時田秀美の母親が登場しているのも要チェック！

4.0 out of 5 stars 格好よすぎる編集者たちではあるけれど, 2003/2/13
　確かに格好いい編集者はいる。それは間違いない。これはそういうごく一部の人たちの話なのだ、と思うことにしよう。でもこれが編集者の典型だとは思わないでね。主人公が夫の浮気相手と会うあたりから、がぜん、おもしろくなりますね。緊張感があるようでないようで。妻という立場を意識するのかと思いきや、そうでもないような。男から言わせてもらうと、夫の立場も成生の立場も、悪くない。しかしこの作品で一番得をしている脇役は新人作家の永山だ。格好良すぎる。蕎麦屋のシーンなんていいねえ。ま、そんなことで、語るときりがないか。おもしろい作品で、とても楽しめた。第一、全編、清潔で美しい。

昔のソウルミュージック系のAMY節を期待してると肩透かしくらっちゃうかも。でも、素敵な大人の青春小説。。。かな？AMY流夫婦愛（腐れ縁？）をAからZの26文字をちりばめながらの語りは、斬新。穏やかなせつなさです。
時田仁子さんの登場も、カメオっぽくて○。

PAYDAY！や僕は勉強ができないなんかの青春小説と併行して、

こんな風な小説が書けるのは、詠美さんならではじゃないかなあ。
心地よい穏やかなせつなさとほろ苦さと痛み。後味がすっきりしてて、
うるうるっていうよりも、心がホコホコする作品です。

私は好き！毛色がいつもと違っても、小説としてすごく素敵だし、

感性はいつものごとく。心の奥の言葉にならない感情を、いつも代わりに表現してくれるAMYがいるから、私の生活は何倍も楽しくなり、私はいろいろな感情を刺激される。
