　いわずと知れたベストセラー作家・田中芳樹が、作家以前に何を好んで読み、何に強く触発されたのかが解る本である。

　今でこそ、書いた物が沢山売れ、執筆スケジュールも詰まっていると思われる作家にも、原稿を書いても原稿料が出なかったり、最初の本の売り上げが記録に残るほど悪かった苦節の過去があってこそ、いま現在の著者が存在するのだということがしみじみ感じられた。

　博学な著者だから、対談や他人の作品の開設も難解なものかと思いきや、そこには明るさと他の作家とその作品世界に対する優しさが伝わってきて、人柄の好さが表れている（諧謔は含んでいるけどね）。田中芳樹の熱心な読者なら読んで損はしない本だろう。

ひとりの作家の歴史、考え、書き方。
そんなことを、この１冊で読み解いていけます。
すでに「超有名作家」ではありますが、
いつまでも、書きたいものを書いていって欲しい。
そう応援せずにはいられません。
