上巻を読んでいる時は、弥生の事件にかかわった人達の間の信頼性の薄さや刑事の執拗な捜査から、
いつか絶対バレるだろう、それだけのリスクを犯して雅子が弥生に協力する理由を、
読者がどれだけ納得出来るように描けるかがポイントだと思った。
ところが下巻に進むと、それまでのリアルな描写が減り、展開がドラマチックになって行く。
作者の筆致により引き込まれるように読み進められるものの、さすがに事件の当事者弥生までもが
蚊帳の外に出された時は、主役が雅子だとはわかっていても、そんな〜と思ってしまった。
二人の間に流れるような運命的な描写は理解出来たが「死なないで」は個人的にはＮＧ。
単に好みの問題だが、そういう二人だからこそ惹かれ、
一緒になれない事も運命とわかりきっている雅子にこのセリフはちょっと安っぽい感じがした。

映画の「ＯＵＴ」を観る前に原作を読んでおこうと思ったのがきっかけで読んだ。映画の他にも田中美佐子主演のＴＶドラマも観たが、小説、映画、ドラマ、全て結末が違う。
やはり小説の結末が一番しっくりくる。雅子と佐竹の特殊な関係を映画、ドラマでは描いてないのが気に入らない。

雅子が新しい一歩を踏み出すのに佐竹との生死をかけた対決を避けては通れない。なぜ映画、ドラマはそれを描かなかったのだろうか？
痛みがなくては何も手に入らない！
映画、ドラマは嫌な現実から楽にＯＵＴし過ぎているのが納得できない。

作者のブレークのきっかけとなった代表作。
パート仲間の殺した夫をバラバラにした4人を描くクライムノベル。

それぞれが様々な家庭事情をかかえており、その「閉塞感」からの「OUT」を描ききったのが本作品であり、ミステリーという枠組みを超えた傑作である。
特に、終盤の息もつかせぬ展開は、これまでに類を見ないものであり、作者にしか描けないすばらしいものである。
