~御手洗シリーズの短編集。『lgE』、『SIVAD SELIM』、『ボストン幽霊絵画事件』、『さらば遠い輝き』の4編を収録。うち2番目と4番目は謎解きではない(念のため)。
何といっても『SIVAD SELIM』が光っている。見事なプロットに思わず唸らずにいられない『lgE』、『ボストン幽霊絵画事件』もいいのだが、『SIVAD SELIM』の素敵さは圧倒的だ。

読んでいて御手洗シリーズに魅かれる人というのは以下の資質を持っている人だと気がついた（●＾o＾●）。
1.まずジャズ好きで特にマイルス・ディビスのアルバムを年代順に並べて、一緒にやっているミュージシャンの特徴とその後に精通している。

2.ビードルズを10代に聴いた世代で同じくアルバムを年代順に並べるとともに、その曲順・歌詞を今でも空で言える。
3. 56の短編と4つの長編があるシャーロック・ホームズ・シリーズを読破済みであるとともに、グラナダTVのジェレミー・ブレッド主演本シリーズをDVDで手に入れている。

上記の資質を持っている人は『御手洗病』にかかりやすいと断言したい。かくゆう僕もその一人だ。
未だこの短編を知らずにいる上記の資質を持っている人々に勧めたい一冊だ。~

御手洗潔は長編よりもこういった短編の方が、ストーリーも解り易く、簡潔にまとまっていて面白いです。各も物語の前半は、あまりにも事件とかけ離れているが、じつは重大な事件の始まりである。こんなパターンの本を書ける人があまりいない近頃。。。すごく貴重です。

御手洗潔の短編集。「ボストン幽霊絵画事件」「lgE」のミステリーはもちろん面白いし、レオナの一途な気持ちが切ない「さらば遠い輝き」もいい。しかし、音楽も好きな人には、なんと言っても「SIVAD SELIM」がたまらない。ミステリーでもなく悲恋ものでもないが、音楽好きの方はその結末に感動し涙してしまうでしょう。
