人間のずるさ・弱さ・汚さが赤裸々に書かれていて、自分や周りの人間に当てはまることも多いので「そうそう」とか相槌を打ちながら読んでしまう一冊。
でも、日常の煩わしさから距離を置きたいとか、もっと自分を高めていきたいという気持ちのときに読むと、人間に対してがっかりしてしまう本でもあると思います。
「こういう話は日常だけで十分」と個人的には思いました。

この本は１２の短編で構成されている。
１話目を読みながら、ここに登場している主人公の女性が、自分の友人の中の１人にとっても似ていることに気付いた。
「私の友人もひょっとしてこの主人公のように浮気なんかしていたりして…」
などと勝手な想像が膨らんでいく。

１話目を読み終えたところで「このお話の続きがあったらいいのに」と思いながら２話目へと目を移すと冒頭に１話目の主人公の夫の名前が出てきた。
今度は夫が主人公になり視点を変え、方向を変えてストーリーが展開していく。
１話目は２話目にリンクして、２話目は３話目にリンクして、３話目は４話目に…

という訳で、１話目を読むと最終話まで自動的に読み進んでいってしまうという「しくみ」になっています。
それはまるで秘密の扉を次から次へと、ずっと奥の扉まで、１つずつ開いていくっていう感じでした。

短編集ですが、連続性があります。一話目の脇役が二話目の主人公に、二話目の脇役が三話目の主人公に・・・といった調子で各短編が書かれています。たとえば、妻の真意に思い至らず浮気をして悦に入っている夫の視点で描かれたストーリーと、逆にその妻の視点で描かれたストーリーがあったりして夫婦でありながら各々の生活における世界観の違いのようなものが垣間見えて愉しいです。タイトル通りみんなの秘密を覗いたような気分になります。
