LDやADHD、高機能自閉症と言われる子供たちが、通常学級の中に6.3％の割合で存在する・・・彼らは特別な支援の必要な子達である・・・そんな主張はいかにもセンセーショナルで、教育に大きな転換期が来ていることを印象付ける。一方で、歴史的な人物や各界で活躍する人物の中にも、これらの特徴を持つ方たちが数多くいるという。このことは、周囲の彼らに対する理解と支援が、彼らの自己実現にとって重要な要素になり得ることを示すものだ。巻末のチェックリストは、教員が自らの経験から安易に判断しないために、おおいに活用すべきだ。ただし、素人診断のためではなく、援助の方向性を見出すために！
