これは「江戸しぐさ語り部の会」の主催者であり、江戸しぐさの普及者である越川氏の著作です。

江戸時代の江戸の商人たちの間で育まれ、口承で綿々と伝えられてきた「江戸しぐさ」。
それは「商人しぐさ」であり「繁盛しぐさ」でした。
単なるマナーや作法ではなく、「くせ」にまで昇華した考え方であり生き方だったようです。
その「江戸しぐさ」は明治政府が設立した段階で、商人たちの緻密なネットワークを恐れた政府が徹底的な粛清をおこない、壊滅してしまったそうです。
それを故芝三光師に押しかけ弟子入りした著者が長い時間をかけて聞き出し、考え、整理したのが、この「江戸しぐさ」です。

狭い道路ですれ違う時の「肩引き」、雨の日に傘を反対側に傾ける「傘かしげ」、バスや電車の中で席をつめる時の「こぶし腰浮かせ」などのしぐさは今も残っている「粋」なしぐさです。
不意の訪問は相手の時間を浪費するとして「時泥棒は弁済不能の十両の罪」と言われたり、往来で足を踏まれた時には踏んだほうだけでなく踏まれたほうも「うっかりしていましてすみません」とい言ったりしたそうです。

仏様の前では身分の上下はないという発想に基づいた「共生」の考え方がそのベースになっています。
「粋」とは「生き生きと生きて意気を示す」ことを意味する、と著者は述べます。

前向きの江戸っ子の姿勢を現代のわたしたちも学びたいものだとつくづく思いました。

バーバル（音声）コミュニケーションであれ，ノンバーバルであれ，意思疎通に重要なものは人間のしぐさである。

著者は「江戸しぐさ」というが私達大阪商人の家庭に育った者にとっても，明治生まれの親から聞いたような事が多くあった。懐かしいような，かつ現代によみがえらせることの困難さとともに，できれば自分から心がけねばならないのではないか・・・と考えさせられる良書であった。
