物理の究極の理論といわれる超ひも理論とか、ブレーンワールドとか、断片的に聞いたことがあって興味もあるが、その全体像がつかめなくて困っている人に最適の入門書。この分野の研究の第一人者である著者による、１９７０年代から最近までの理論発展の説明は、マンガという直感的な方法とあいまってとてもわかりやすい。初期のひも理論の欠点が、次の超ひも理論の成功のきっかけとなったとか、この理論が完成すると重力定数も計算できる、等々。この理論が完成間近と示唆する著者の見通しに期待したい。

著者の川合氏はかなりの権威と名誉ある方なのだが、この本は何がしたいのかわからない。
出だしからエネルギー保存の崩壊の話をはじめたかと思えば、10(11)次元の世界へ話を飛躍させ
男が事故にあってヒモダ様(笑)に遭遇して、超ひも理論の断片に触れるという意味不明かつ
具体性皆無のプロットによってストーリーが進んでいる。しかも解説がわかりにくい。

　4つの力の統一理論や宇宙の成り立ちについてなどに、超ひも理論によってどのように記述されるのかがマンガを織り交ぜながら書かれてあり、楽しみながら理解して読めた。
　マンガによる超ひも理論の直感的な理解ができるので、素粒子物理学に興味のある高校生などにはうってつけの本であるだろう。
