　かの迷作「名探偵の掟」の続編。この本単体で楽しめないことは無いのですが、先に「名探偵の掟」を読んでいる方が楽しめるつくりではあります。
　内容的には本格推理をテーマとして、いろいろなトリックを紹介していくようなつくりですが、作者のテーマはまた別のところにあり、終盤近くの数ページは著者である東野さんの本音と思われる思いが綴られています。
　これを読むと東野さんは、やっぱり推理小説を愛しているんだなあという感じを受けますね。最後の一行に込められた思いは心に残りました。

　ミステリー作家の「私」が図書館へ行くといつのまにか違う世界へ迷い込む。そこでは「私」は探偵の天下一なのである。そしてその世界の誕生の鍵をにぎる、記念館をめぐる争いに出会う。そして、様々な怪事件が起こる。それには必ず本格推理の要素が含まれている。

　名探偵天下一はそれらの事件を次々と解決していく。そしてついにその世界の誕生の鍵をにぎる禁断の本を見つける。その作者とは……。
　『名探偵の掟』（同作者）がおもしろかった人にはおすすめします。連続短編集だった『名探偵の掟』に登場する主人公がでてくるミステリーの中のミステリーです。

『名探偵の掟』の続編。形としては、本の中の名探偵にされてしまった主人公がそこで起きる事件を解決していく、というものだが、この本のテーマはそんな謎解きではない。前作が、「本格推理モノへの決別宣言」であるなら、今作は「本格推理モノへの想い」だと思う。いずれにせよ、前作を読んでこその今作だろう。

ちなみに、前作と違って今作にはあまり笑いの要素はないのでご注意を。
