館そのもののトリックがシリーズ通しでも1番大掛かりで、
このページ数の作品でこう来るか、という驚きがありました。

その分、他のシリーズに比して「殺人」自体が
弱かったのでおすすめ度では4点ですが、
タイトルに堂々と「殺人」をうたってなかったら満点を付けたかったです。

これは今までのシリーズとはちょっと趣が違い「誰が犯人か」ということに重きが置かれていない作品ですね。それ以外のところに“仕掛け”がしてあって、読者にとってはそちらの驚きの方が大きいでしょう…私ももちろんそうでした。

読んでいるうちに「あれ？」って思う箇所はいくつか出てくるのですが、先が気になるから深く考えずに先に先にいっちゃって、それでまんまと最後に「そういうことだったのか〜」と、あっと驚かされてしまいました。後から考えれば伏線だらけだったのになぁ…

十角館や時計館に比べるとインパクトは弱いけど「館シリーズ」の６作目だからこそ出来る、作者の野心がこもった実験的な作品だと思います。

真相の意外さでは十角館に比肩する作品。館シリーズとしては異色の作品で過去に起こった事件を本作は扱っています。依頼人の老人は記憶を失っており、彼の手記が真実であるかどうかを主人公は探ることになる。真相の鍵となるのは当然その老人が残した手記となるのだが・・・　

綾辻ミステリーの中ではその張られた伏線の数の多さという意味で特筆すべき作品だと思います。しかも犯人の意外さではなく、もっと意外な真相が用意されています。伏線が多いので、注意して読めばその真相に気づく方も多いのでは？特に水の流れなどは、、、

読みやすく、真相看破も比較的容易であるので、綾辻作品の入門編として最適の作品ではないかと思います。読後感も爽快です。
