　この本はすばらしい。「源氏物語」の訳本は何冊か読んだが、どうしても「古文」というイメージから離れられず、読みにくかった。瀬戸内寂聴訳「源氏物語」はすらすら読むことができ、読んでいて気持ちがいい。短歌も読みやすく、わかり易い。

　この２巻の良いところは、物語の見所が凝縮されていること。手を出して後悔？した末摘花の帖、生霊の出てくる葵の帖など、源氏物語をあまり知らない人でもちょっとは聞いたことがある部分。また、若紫の姫君との仲や不安定な政治的立場など、読んでいて飽きさせない。瀬戸内氏のあとがき「源氏のしおり」もあまさず読みたいところだ。
