「青春漫画」みたいな作品は数多くあれど、後半に進むにつれ、
描写の過激さ、暗さ、非現実さなどが災いし、埋もれてしまった名作です。
主人公はありがちな、思春期特有の悶々とした想いを持った男の子という設定ですが、
その台詞や場面のひとつひとつは、他の売れてる「青春漫画」とは一線を画するものがあります。
「青春」を題材にした作品が好きな方に、是非一度見てもらいたい作品です。
ただし、青春のさわやかさ、愛の素晴らしさ(笑)を見たいという方にはあまりおすすめできません。
人を選ぶ作品ではあると思いますが、私は文句無く☆5つです。

単行本だった頃は全３巻で、第３巻だけが成人指定でした。
もちろん読みましたとも。１０年前の学生時代、友人にすごい本だと薦められて、事実そのとおりでした。
「主人公は俺か？俺なのか！？」と自問つつ何度も読み直したものです。
上巻での爽やかな高校生活は、下巻では侵入者がもたらした大人の現実によって蹂躙されてしまう。
逃れられない現実に、金と欲にまみれた現実に流され、自らもどっぷり溺れる主人公。
それでも美術の道への現実逃避に、自意識の最後の砦を築く主人公。
苦悶の果て、密かに練り上げられた、ささやかな殺人計画。
戦友は、いや共犯者はただひとりだけ。
そして彼らは勝利した。
読後感は驚くほど爽やかでした。

良い本は、それを読んだ後に必ず眠れなくなる。台風の夜のように、心がザワザワして苦しくてせつなくてどうしようもできないこの気持ちをどうしてくれよう。って。そんな気持ちを呼び起こす「さくらの唄」。
とにかく読め。読まずには死ねない。これはそんな本。
